Another Reason to Take a Good Multiple Vitamin

A New Study on Multiple Vitamins

A new study from the women’s health initiative in forty clinical sites in the United States was done on 7,728 women aged 50-79 diagnosed with invasive breast cancer.  The study was to determine whether taking a multiple vitamin improved breast cancer mortality in postmenopausal women.   The women were followed seven years after breast cancer diagnosis.  The study showed that breast cancer mortality was lower in multiple vitamin users than in non users.

This is another reason all women should be taking a good quality multiple vitamin.   This study shows a reduction in mortality in invasive breast cancer.  Multiple vitamin use may also prevent breast cancer.

Dr. Wiancek has formulated her own multiple Vitamin

Why has Dr. Wiancek decided to formulate her own multiple vitamin?
Because many of my patients are taking 5 or 6 bottles of different vitamins and minerals a day and it is costing them a fortune. So I decided to make it easy and cost effective for people. All they would need is provided in my multiple vitamins at a cost of $40.00 a month

What does your multiple vitamin include?

It includes the following:
1,000 mg of calcium citrate the most absorbable calcium available to help prevent osteoporosis.
2000 IU of Vitamin D3 to prevent osteoporosis.
400 IU of vitamin E which is a natural blood thinner, protects us from heart disease and all kinds of cancers.
1,000 mg of vitamin C which protects us from getting the common cold because of it’s anti-viral effects.
15,000 IU of Vitamin A which protects us from all kinds of cancer and helps keep our skin healthy.
100 mcg Selenium which is also an antioxidant which protects us from all kinds of cancers including prostate cancer.
30 mg of Zinc which also protects us from colds and all kinds of cancers including prostate cancer.
50 mg of all the B vitamins. These are water soluble vitamins which need to be replenished on a daily basis. We need them during times of stress that is why they are called our stress vitamins.

Other minerals included in the multiple include:

Folic acid 800 mcg
Vitamin K 150 mcg
Vitamin B12 100 mcg
Biotin 300 mcg
Pantothenic acid 70 mg
Magnesium citrate 500 mg
Copper 1 mg
Manganese 15 mg
Chromium 100 mcg
Potassium 50 mg
Boron 2 mg
Molybdenum 50 mcg
Vanadium 20 mcg
Choline 70 mg
Inositol 70 mg

Why is there no iron in this multiple vitamin?

Why a little may be good more is definitely not better when it comes to your heart. A study comparing coronary heart disease patients with healthy, age matched controls, found women older than 60 had a 3.5 fold increase in CHD risk for every 50 mg of iron consumed per month over 250 mg.

The lesson here is to take iron supplements only when you need them.

One a day for Women has 27 mg of iron in each tablet. That amounts to an 810 mg of iron load every month, raising a consumer’s risk for CHD 40 fold. Several studies have conversely confirmed the cardiovascular benefits of iron depletion through blood donation, reducing the risk of an acute heart attack as much as 88 percent in middle aged male donors.
Also, some researchers suggest the loss of iron rich blood during menstruation is partly responsible for the lower rates of heart disease in younger women. The lesson here is to take iron supplements only when you need them. The only way to tell if you are low in iron is through a blood test.

Who should be taking a multiple vitamin?

Individuals who are not eating a balanced diet on a daily basis.

If you are lactose intolerant you may be deficient in calcium and vitamin D.

You’re pregnant, of child bearing age or may become pregnant or are breast feeding.

To prevent osteoporosis all women should be taking calcium, vitamin D, magnesium, vitamin C, boron, vitamin K, zinc and copper starting at 20 years of age or younger.

You have elevated homeocystein, a protein that may be related to an increased risk of coronary heart disease. Vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and folic acid has been shown to prevent heart disease and lower homeocysteine levels.

You have had an intestinal condition such as inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome or chronic pancreatitis. All this conditions can interfere with nutrient absorption.

You’re on a weight reduction diet.

You’re a cancer patient - you should be taking antioxidants.

You’re a strict vegetarian - You are probably lacking in vitamin B12.

To reduce your risk of getting cancer. Harvard’s famous evaluation of 90,000 nurses for more than 15 years showed that multiple vitamins appeared to reduce the risk of colon and breast cancers.

Supplements Taken as Prevention of Chronic Illnesses Reduce Health Care Costs

In a recent economic report from Washington D.C. regarding supplement usage, certain dietary supplements have been found to assist in the reduction of Health Care expenditures from patients with chronic diseases, that in-turn reduces Health Care costs.

This information was collected from a recent Study funded by a grant from the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) Foundation

As chronic diseases weigh on the quality of life for many US citizens, the demand for alleviation of symptoms has increased. This is due to the application of dietary supplementation usage of persons with 4 targeted chronic diseases over the age of 55yrs. Currently the US spends not just multi-millions but billions of dollars on chronic disease treatment. With this newly announced demonstration of how supplements can be taken at preventative dosage levels to not only reduce health care costs, yet it also displayed an increase in health satisfaction and health benefits too among participants.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) as much as 75% of Health Care costs is spent on chronic diseases alone. Here are some examples of supplements and corresponding illnesses, and how much money the US could potentially save.

Men & Women over 55 with elevated coronary cholesterol levels – Take psyllium dietary fiber – Reduce Heart Attack Rates – Savings of $2.5 billion on emergency room visits annually

Women over 55 with Osteoporosis – Take calcium and Vitamin D – lessen frequency of bone breakage –Savings &1.5 billion annually

A look at the results of this study by the Global Program Manager of the study, Mr. Shanahan stated I anticipate this report will fuel the critical conversation around the importance of preventive health care practices to control health care spending, and the critical role dietary supplements can play in reducing the risk of medical events associated with these diseases.

A member of The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) stated “Chronic diseases negatively impact our lives far beyond the direct medical costs and if there are things we can do to help lessen medical events and associated costs of those diseases, we should be doing them.”

Work with your doctor to talk about lifestyle changes and supplements that can help you to prevent chronic diseases. As the nation has the possibility of saving billions as a whole, taking such preventative measures saves an individual thousands of dollars as well.

Doctor visit with an N.D. : What to expect

The basic tenet of naturopathic medicine is to prevent diseaseThat philosophy covers everything from quitting smoking to incorporating regular exercise into your day to eating a balanced diet so you can harness your body's natural healing power.

Your first visit will last at least 90 minutes, sometimes longer. Much of that time is spent talking so that the physician can gather an extensive medical history.

In addition to the natural therapies already described, your N.D. may also order conventional medical tests, including x-rays and blood work. And if you need to see a medical specialist such as a surgeon or oncologist, your naturopath will make the appropriate referrals.

Ideally, your N.D. will find a way to integrate conventional Western medicine and one or more kinds of natural medicine to treat any diseases and conditions that you might suffer from.

Detoxification : Why Cleanse?

Feeling low on energy? Having aches and pains, digestive or skin problems? Having trouble kicking off weight loss?

It may be time to cleanse your body through a detoxification program

Detoxification means many different things to many people. Generally speaking it is a relatively modern term, related to modern lifestyles. One hundred plus years ago the human race didn't have to worry about ingesting pesticides, breathing carbon monoxide, or cooking with plastics. In those times people tended to grow their own food from a garden or raise their own animals, they worked and sweated doing physical labor, and there weren't any vehicles's exhaust fumes to pollute the are. They were naturally de-toxing all the time. In contrast, our modern civilization bodies can have a hard time getting rid of chemicals in our systems as we continuously bombard or overload it.

So Why Cleanse?

Detoxification promotes cleansing by minimizing exposure to new toxicants, by keeping the pathways of elimination free as possible, and by making abundant detoxifying nutrients available. It is designed to reduce inflammatory processes within the body. Detoxification is essential in maintaining health and should be done periodically throughout the year. Its purpose is to give the body a break from chemicals and toxins that is has to process and cleanse on a daily basis.

We live in an extremely toxic world that makes it impossible to completely avoid eating, drinking, breathing, and physically coming in contact with toxins. An extension of toxic sources may include electromagnetic radiation and skin care products.

Who Needs Detoxification?

Most everyone does at sometime, well unless you are living as a Tibetan monk on the top of a hill, eating organic foods, and living off the land. Detoxification can assist the body in many disease processes- so a person that has allergies, fatigue, chronic pain, neurological problems, heart disease, arthritis, or would like to reach optimal health, may benefit from a detox program.

Below are a list of additional common symptoms of toxicity:

- Fatigue, anxiety, depression
- Allergies, frequent infections
- Weight gain, trouble losing weight
- Joint pain, muscle weakness
- Brain fog, memory loss, inability to focus
- Indigestion, constipation, dirrhea, gas
- Skin rashes, skin eruptions/acne
- Recurrent yeast/ fungal infections

What Will a Clinical Detox Program Include?

- Cleansing diet and/or short-term fasting
- Herbal medicine & supplement protocol
- Physical therapeutics
- Relaxation routines
- Mental/emotional/spiritual exploration
May additionally include
-Heavy metal testing
-Food allergy testing
-B-12 injections
-Naturopathic care with appropriate physical exam and additional lab testing

How Can I Expect to Feel After?

- Improved overall health
- Toxin elimination and future avoidance of toxins
- Increased energy
- Sound sleep
- Easier weight management/possible weight loss

Consult a Naturopathic Physician for optimal result and safety through program monitoring.
